INFANTERIE REGIMENT "LIST" CUT OFF SET FROM TUNIC
This is a lovely cut-off grouping from one tunic having belonged to a Wachtmeister of the famous "Infanterie Regiment List".
It consists of the entire tunic collar trimmed with NCO's tresse and complete with generic collar tabs, shoulder straps for a Wachtmeister with unit number "19",
breast eagle on a piece of the tunic, and the rare cufftitle, also still attached to a piece of the tunic's sleeve.
Originally personnel of the 19TH Infantry Regiment were awarded the tradition name "List", to commemorate the 16TH Royal Bavarian Reserve Regiment "List", in which Hitler served in WWI.
This honor was transferred to the 199TH Infantry Regiment on September 21ST 1939 on the formation of the 57TH Infantry Division.
On November 12TH 1943 the 199TH Infantry Regiment was authorized wear of a commemorative "List" cufftitle.
The 57TH Infantry Division was virtually destroyed in the summer of 1944, and was disbanded.
The tradition name and cufftitle were returned to the 19TH Grenadier Regiment of the 7TH Infantry Division in August 1944.
Both the 19TH and the 199TH Regiments consisted mainly of Bavarian recruits, and both fought with distinction.
Because the "Infanterie-Regiment List" cufftitle was a regimental cufftitle, as opposed to a divisional cufftitle, it saw limited distribution and is one of the rarest unit identifying cufftitles.
